The Part Time Weekend Islamic Studies course is designed for those unable to commit to a full time schedule but would like to have the option to study and spread their learning out in a more flexible way.  The course is open to both males and females and directed at professionals, students in universities and those in high schools of 14 years of age and above of good academic ability and maturity.

 

The Weekend course will aim to equip and educate the students of knowledge by teaching them not only to comprehend but to be able to practice and apply the Islamic Sciences. The Islamic Sciences taught at the institute allows students to develop in-depth understanding of Arabic Grammar, Tajweed, Arabic Literature, Tafseer Al-Qur‘an, Hadith, Islamic Law (Fiqh), and Islamic History. Students completing the initial two years of the Islamic studies course will be able to move onto the 2nd year of the Aalimiyyah programme.

What you need to know

Students do not necessarily need to have any prior knowledge of subject areas but must be passionate and enthusiastic about studying the Arabic language and the Islamic sciences. It should be remembered that it is designed to be intensive requiring serious dedication and commitment.
All prospective students are required to Register for the course on a yearly basis.  The fee payable for the Full Day course is only £150 for the first term plus a one-off registration fee of £65 (applicable to new students only) to cover the cost of course text-books and materials.

Registering for Individual Subjects/Modules

Prospective students are also able to register for individual modules  for which there is £10 Registration Fee plus any textbook cost that may be required. The class times and module fee is detailed out below. This course will run in parallel to the school academic year taking into consideration major breaks/holidays in the academic year. Every student will be assessed to judge their level of ability once they register.

QURANIC STUDIES: TAJWEED

QSTAJ 101: Tajweed Level 1

This is the starting course for those who are able to read the Holy Qur’aan with some level of accuracy. Students focus on learning some of the fundamental rules of Tajweed. The following areas will be covered in this level: Introduction to the science of Tajweed, Its benefits & Ahkams. Makhraj (Articulation points of the Arabic letters), Tafkheem & Tarqeeq (heavy & Light Letters), Laam in the exalted name of Allah, Noon & Meem Mushaddad and Qalqalah.

QSTAJ 201: Tajweed Level 2

In Level 2 students start to add beauty to their recitation by learning more of the rules of Tajweed, especially the nasal sounds. The following rules will be learnt in this course: Noon as Saakinah & Tanween, Meem as Saakinah, Laam as Saakinah, rules of the letter Raa. Students will practically apply the rules of Tajweed by reciting the selected chapters of the Holy Quran.

QSTAJ 301: Tajweed Level 3

This course further builds on level 2 by introducing the rules of Madd, Hamzatul Wasl and the rules of Wuqoof. At the end of this course, students should be able to identify and apply most of the previous rules of Tajweed learnt from a given page from the Holy Qur’aan randomly. Furthermore, the student should demonstrate practically their knowledge on the rules.

QSTAJ 401 Tajweed Level 4a (Advanced)

This level is for students who have completed Tajweed levels 1-3 or equivalent and would like to study the science of Tajweed at an advance level. We will go through Imam Al Jazari’s book on Tajweed and Shaykh Aymans course to teach the students the method of preserving and perfecting the pronunciation of the Quran. Reinforcing the basics, the course will delve into more complex aspects of tajwid that expound upon all the terminologies and subtle rules of tajweed. It will concentrate on knowing the characteristics of the letters (as Sifaat) and some exceptional rules. By the end of this program, you will have mastered the correct recitation of the Quran according to the narration of Hafs ‘an Asim using Tajweed rules and insha’Allah receive the entire Quran from an authorized teacher with a chain of transmission back to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and give him peace.

ARABIC

ARB SC 100: Arabic for beginners

The elementary Arabic level is designed for absolute beginners, students who have no prior knowledge of Arabic. In this level, the student will learn the Arabic Alphabet, how to read and write Arabic words, joining letters, forming words and reading basic Arabic sentences.

ARB SC 101: Level 1 Arabic

This level is intended for beginners with little understanding of the Arabic language. Students will need to be able to read and write Arabic. Students will be taught the essential skills of communicating in Arabic by utilising al-Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk (Book 1, chapters 1 to 8). Upon successful completion of this course, students will acquire a good introduction to the Arabic Language and will have learnt basic communication skills in Arabic. They will have learnt adequate vocabulary to construct basic sentences to be able to introduce themselves, their family and other topics from everyday life. Please note* Nahw Arabic Grammer (Syntax) & Sarf (Morphology) will be introduced in stages at each level.

ARB SC 102: Level 2 Arabic

This level is for students who have completed Arabic level 1 or equivalent, are able to understand basic Arabic instructions and are familiar with writing Arabic. Students are taught the essential skills of communicating in Arabic by utilising al-Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk (Book 1, chapters 9 to 16). Upon successful completion of the course students will have accquired skills which enables a basic level of fluency in reading and understanding Arabic. Please note* Nahw Arabic Grammer (Syntax) & Sarf (Morphology) will be introduced in stages at each level.

ARB SC 103: Level 3 Arabic

This level is for students who have successfully completed Arabic level 2 or equivalent. Students are taught utilising al-Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk (Book 2, chapters 1 to 8). Upon successful completion of the course students will have acquired skills which enables a good level of fluency in reading and understanding Arabic and be able to translate and make use of vocabulary and expressions in a wider context. Please note* Nahw Arabic Grammer (Syntax) & Sarf (Morphology) will be introduced in stages at each level.

ARB SC 104: Level 4 Arabic

In this level, students will be taught essential skills of communicating in Arabic by utilising al-Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk (Book 2, chapters 9 to 16). Upon successful completion students will be able to build on their fluency and gain wider appreciation of the language in different contexts; being able to speak, translate and make more use of a very wide range of Arabic vocabulary and expression. HADITH STUDIES 

HAD 101: 40 Hadith of Imam Nawawi

In this course you will study Imam Nawawi’s precious and timeless collection of hadiths in order to taste the spiritual and practical advice of the Messenger (peace be upon him). Through contemplation and implementation, students will experience the relevance of these hadiths in their lives as Muslims in a modern context.

HAD 102: Principles of Hadith

This course introduces the student to the mustalah al-hadith. Classification of a hadith is based upon the chain of narration, context, strength of the narrators, number of narrators, etc. This course covers the very basic definitions pertaining to the classification of the hadith. The student will be able to comprehend the basic and common terminology used to classify hadith upon completing this course.

HAD 103: Hadith Translation & Memorisation

The goal of this course is to have students memorize 120 ahadith. This is an ideal course for beginners who wish to memorize the ahadith of the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) along with their meanings. The instructor will go through the various ahadith with the translation and a brief commentary of each hadith.

FIQH

FQH 101: Fiqh of Purification

Basic rulings of purification along with their proofs are covered in this course. Based on classical texts, rulings from all schools of thought are presented with a focus on Hanafi fiqh. This course, designed for beginner students, will incorporate rulings on ablution, bathing, tayammum, wiping over socks, discharge, level of impurities, and menstruation. Not only are all the injunctions proven from an academic standpoint but a practical perspective as well.

FQH 102: Fiqh of Salat

Basic rulings of prayer along with their proofs are covered in this course. Based on classical texts, rulings from all schools of thought are presented with a focus on Hanafi fiqh. This course, designed for beginner students, will discuss the mechanics of the prayer, including what establishes it, perfects it and protects it from error. The course will also expound upon the different manifestations of prayer, such as congregation, Friday and Eid, and special prayers for seeking guidance and for the fulfillment of a need.

FQH 103: Fiqh of Fasting

Basic rulings of fasting along with their proofs are covered in this course. Based on classical texts, rulings from all schools of thought are presented with a focus on Hanafi fiqh. This course, designed for beginner students, will present present-day issues and way to resolve them with practical examples.

FQH 104: Fiqh of Charity

Basic rulings of fasting, charity along with their proofs are covered in this course. Based on classical texts, rulings from all schools of thought are presented with a focus on Hanafi fiqh. This course, designed for beginner students, will present present-day issues and way to resolve them with practical examples.

FQH 105: Fiqh of Pilgrimage

Basic rulings of pilgrimage along with their proofs are covered in this course. Based on classical texts, rulings from all schools of thought are presented with a focus on Hanafi fiqh. This course, designed for beginner students, will present present-day issues and way to resolve them with practical examples.

SEERAH (To be taught following semester)

SRA 101: Meccan Period

Biography of the prophet (peace be upon him) from the pre-Islamic period till migration. Course will cover the internal and external life of Rasul Allah (SAW) during the Meccan period. Focus will be on the lessons that we can learn from his blessed example and the manner in which to implement them in these challenging times. The goal is to increase our faith and inspires greater love for the Prophet (SAW).

SRA 102: Medinan Period

Biography of the prophet (peace be upon him) during the Medinan period will be covered. Students will witness the internal and external life of Rasul Allah (SAW) during this blessed perios. Focus will be on the lessons that we can learn from his blessed example and the manner in which to implement them in these challenging times. The goal is to increase our faith and inspires greater love for the Prophet (SAW).
